Projecto K. * 2014
Mosteiro de S. Bento da Vitória, Teatro Nacional São João, Porto (Porto, Portugal)

Projeto K. is a theatre production directed by Ana Luena, produced in collaboration with Teatro Nacional São João (TNSJ), and built from texts by Franz Kafka. Presented in Porto in 2014, the work stages Kafka not as literature-to-be-explained, but as a living mechanism: unstable, lucid, and quietly brutal.

António Baía Reis acted in Projeto K., joining an ensemble emerging from the Acting Lab. The piece approaches Kafka’s universe as a universal theatre where the human condition is always already performative: existence as a hearing, a corridor, a waiting room, a sentence. Dreams, allegories, symbols, trivia, Kafka refuses resolution, and the production embraces that refusal as its dramaturgical engine.

Echoing Pirandello’s Six Characters, the performers inhabit a “natural stage” as if seeking refuge inside the act of representation itself, actors as asylum seekers, bodies negotiating authority, guilt, and the impossible need for clarity. The result is a chamber-like experience where language becomes architecture and the tribunal becomes a metaphor that keeps re-forming in front of the audience.
